Sitting at nearly 7,000′, Park City is nestled into an alpine environment that is perfect for recreating in every season; but what does that mean for your packing list? It’s possible to pack light no matter the season, but it can take some consideration and all depends on your plans for your visit. Packing the right items for your adventures keeps you comfortable, safe, and keeps you focused on the fun (rather than the chafe!).

All Seasons’ tips for every season
Layer, layer, layer! The layering system is your best friend in environments that can quickly go from sunshine to hailstorm (and back again) in under 30 minutes. A base layer, mid layer, and outer shell is the basis of dressing for function and comfort in the outdoors. When in doubt, the best rule of thumb for activities where you’ll work up a bit of a sweat is Be Bold, Start Cold. You’ll want to avoid sweating hard in the beginning of your activity (this is why wicking base layers are important) if possible, but always bring that warm layer for breaks and staying warm afterwards. For an in-depth explanation on how to best dress in the winter, see our blog post here.
Base Layer
Choose a base layer that will be comfortable against your skin and wick away any moisture that may accumulate on your adventure. Cotton is not recommended, as it will trap moisture and stay damp for longer, increasing the chance of uncomfortable chafing. Our personal favorite is a merino wool blend. This natural fiber keeps you cool when it’s hot and warm during chilly winter days. Synthetic blends also work great!
Mid Layer
For a mid layer, a fleece jacket is great and accessible. If you happen to travel without one, it’s an easily acquired item in this mountain town! Check out the Outlets for a deal, or shop on Main Street for a more luxurious experience. Don’t feel like this has to be crazy thick – most standard fleeces will work just fine for most of the winter, and you can go thinner for warm seasons.
Outer Shell
For your shell, look for a windproof layer. If you’ll be visiting in the winter, add waterproof to your list. This can look like a raincoat or a ski jacket depending on the season and activity; you won’t need GoreTex for a hike in July!
